How To Take Stunning Engagement Photos | Seattle Engagement Photographer

5 Tips for Great Engagement Photos

You said yes!! Now it's time to share the news with family and friends by sending out stunning photos of you and your sweetie pie. I always tell a bride-to-be to bring ideas for a look or theme when we initially meet over coffee or tea. There I'll help her select outfits and locations that will match! Here are a few insider tips I give my brides before we hold the photography session of their dreams:

1. Wear clothing that fits your personal style + you feel great in. Your confidence will shine and so will you in the photographs!

2. Accessorize -It's amazing how one top can look so different wearing a scarf or statement piece! Choose jewelry that fits the type of dressy or casual outfit you're wearing.

3. Your engagement session is a great time for a trial run with a makeup artist before your wedding day; this is especially important if you plan to wear eyelashes and haven't before!

4. If you or your love decide to wear shoes that are high style but low comfort, be sure to bring some comfy slides or sandals to wear in between shots.

5. Relax and have fun! All good things come with practice and I believe the same goes for being photographed. I share posing techniques with my couples so that they can practice together and become comfortable doing so in front of the camera. Once the wedding day arrives you'll be that much more excited and confident for photography!

For these sweethearts, knowing when to hold their engagement session was easy! They met in the fall, so we chose the time of year when love first found them:
This time of year has always been a special time for Amy & Nick, so I brought along a cinnamon stick and green sprigs to portray the holiday season:
You've probably heard the phrase about letting an image speak for itself, and although I think that is wonderful, sometimes it's fun to capture a specific greeting or message with props:
Amy's soon-to-be last name will start with a "T":
This couple wanted photographs in both a natural and urban setting, how amazing is it that we found both in downotwn Tacoma!?
Consider having a date night after your session, especially since you're all prettied up and already out on the town!

Thank you for choosing Shelby Schmidt Imagery (now known as Something Minted Photography) for your engagement photography, cheers!
